In one of my favourite books, This Here Flesh: Spirituality, Liberation, and the Stories That Make Us, Cole Arthur Riley writes, “Sometimes you can’t talk someone into believing their dignity. You do what you can to make a person feel unashamed of themselves, and you hope in time they’ll believe in their beauty all on their own.”
Let me be clear. There is no shame in being who you are. The shame would be if you never got to meet them. I hope the knowledge I share here will help you to embrace your neurodivergent identity further so that you can see that more clearly, too.
What I’ve learned since being diagnosed with both ADHD and autism in adulthood is that self-discovery is an ongoing practice that involves releasing old narratives about yourself that no longer serve you and creating new pathways to what is possible. Consider this your invitation to do the same.
